Following two #1 albums (i.e. If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late and What A Time To Be Alive), and an endorsement deal with Apple, Drake makes 2015 headlines again with his announcement to continue his acting career.

Aubrey Drake Graham began his acting career as Jimmy Brooks on the Canadian drama Degrassi: The Next Generation. After his character became paralyzed after a school shooting, his nickname quickly became Wheelchair Jimmy, which was quickly unveiled and exploited after beginning his rap career. Since his days on the show, Drake has become a cultural icon in both the rap world and popular culture, a feat he dreamed of while simultaneously on the TV series.

“That was part of the reason I was kicked off the show,” Drake told W Magazine‘s Art. “Back then, I’d spend a full day on set and then go to the studio to make music until 4 or 5 a.m. I’d sleep in my dressing room and then be in front of the cameras again by 9 a.m. Eventually, they realized I was juggling two professions and told me I had to choose… I chose this life.”

Despite his acting days being a thing of the past, Drake looks forward to weaving his first passion back into his life. “I can’t wait to get back into acting,” Drake said. “No one ever asks me to do movies, and, although music is my focal point now, I’d love to do a film. That was the life that I lived before, and it would be interesting to live it again.”

Drake’s W Art cover will be available on newsstands on Oct. 27.
